JD Gaming
About JD Gaming
JD Gaming is one of China's leading League of Legends esports organizations, backed by JD.com. With peak concurrent viewership exceeding 4.3 million during major tournaments, JDG commands one of the largest and most passionate fanbases in competitive gaming.
The Challenge
JDG had millions of fans consuming free content across social platforms. But the most dedicated supporters - the ones who never miss a match, who follow every roster move, who want deeper access to the team - had no way to express that commitment beyond watching streams.
The organization wanted to:
Monetize super fans who were willing to pay for premium access
Offer exclusive content that created real value for subscribers
Build direct fan relationships outside of social platform algorithms
Serve a global audience beyond its core Chinese fanbase
Building this in-house would require payment infrastructure, content management systems, subscription billing, and localization. All significant engineering investments for features outside their core business.

The Solution
JDG deployed a FanBase-powered fan platform with premium subscription tiers, enabling them to offer exclusive content while FanBase handled the technical complexity.
Premium Subscriptions and Gated Content
The platform's Newsfeed became JDG's hub for exclusive content. Subscribers gain access to:
Behind-the-scenes footages from team houses, practice sessions, and tournament venues
Player vlogs offering personal perspectives from pro players
Extended interviews and content not available on public channels
Early access to announcements and team news
Content gating is handled natively within the platform. JDG's content team uploads videos and articles, marks them as premium, and only subscribers can access them. No custom development required.
Payment Infrastructure
FanBase handles all payment processing through integrated Stripe support plus local payment options for the Chinese market. JDG doesn't need to manage payment compliance, currency conversion, or subscription billing. They set their pricing tiers and the platform handles the rest.
Fans subscribe directly within the app, payments process automatically, and access unlocks immediately. Renewal, cancellation, and failed payment handling all work out of the box.
Native Multi-Language Support
JDG's fanbase spans China, Korea, Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America. The platform's native in-app translation covers multiple languages, allowing fans worldwide to engage with content in their preferred language without JDG needing to manually translate every piece of content.
This removes a major barrier for international fan engagement. Content reaches global audiences without additional localization effort from the team.
Results
New Revenue Stream
JDG successfully monetizes their most dedicated fans through premium subscriptions, creating recurring revenue independent of sponsorship deals or tournament winnings.
Deeper Fan Connections
Exclusive content creates genuine value for subscribers. Behind-the-scenes access and player vlogs give fans relationships with players that public content can't provide.
Global Reach
Multi-language support allows JDG to serve international fans without building separate localized experiences for each market.
Reduced Technical Burden
Payment processing, subscription management, content gating, and translation are all handled by the platform. JDG focuses on creating content, not building infrastructure.
The Twitter API alone would cost us $5K monthly. With FanBase, we get Twitter plus many other integrations for less than that.
